TL;DR

Wayground (formerly Quizizz) took the most-used quiz platform in K-12 and pivoted from "quiz generator" to "differentiation engine." The same 20-second topic-to-quiz workflow now ships with automatic reading-level supports, translations and AI rubric grading — powered by GPT-5. Live game-show mode still does the engagement work for you.

Recommend it if

You teach grades 4-12 with 1:1 devices, you have students who need reading-level supports or translations, and you want formative checks that grade themselves.

Skip it if

Your district hasn't budgeted for the School plan (the differentiation and AI grading features sit there), your students don't have devices, or you need open-ended essay grading with bespoke rubrics.

Wayground — the product formerly known as Quizizz — pivoted from “quiz generator” to differentiation engine in the 2025 rebrand. The same 20-second topic-to-quiz workflow now ships with automatic reading-level supports, translations, AI rubric grading and GPT-5 under the hood. Live game-show mode still does the engagement work for you.

The most interesting new piece is Adapt: upload one PDF and it produces grade-level, scaffolded and enrichment versions in one click — no more maintaining three worksheets by hand, no more calling out which students get the “easy” version.

The 20-second loop

  1. Type a topic, upload a PDF, or paste a YouTube URL
  2. (Optional) Click Adapt to spawn differentiated versions per student group
  3. Choose Live (game show) or Assign (asynchronous)
  4. Scores feed into Google Classroom, Canvas or Schoology automatically; AI rubric grading runs on open responses (School plan)

What we like

  • + Turn any PDF, video or webpage into a quiz, presentation or flashcards in seconds — powered by GPT-5
  • + Adapt feature rewrites any resource per-student — reading-level supports, translations, removed distractions — no separate worksheets, no calling students out
  • + AI rubric grading with custom or state-standard rubrics (School plan)
  • + Wayground keeps the live game-show energy students already know from Quizizz
  • + Chrome extension turns any webpage into a graded assessment in two clicks

Heads up

  • Paid pricing for Super and School plans is no longer published — you must contact sales for school quotes
  • Differentiation, AI rubric grading and admin features only ship on the School plan; Basic caps live games at 100 students
  • Brand transition from "Quizizz" to "Wayground" can confuse existing accounts, bookmarks and student-facing links
  • The Item Bank library and on-demand PD remain paid add-ons even on the School plan

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

What happened to the Quizizz brand?

Quizizz officially rebranded to Wayground in 2025. The product, your account, your library and student-facing flow all continue to work — the new URL is wayground.com, but quizizz.com still redirects. Marketing material now says "Wayground (formerly Quizizz)" for the transition period.

Is the AI generator any good, or is it just template-filling?

It's a real generator, now built on GPT-5. Questions vary across cognitive levels (recall, application, analysis), the explanation strings are genuinely useful, and the Adapt features (reading levels, translations) are visibly higher quality than the old Enhance feature. For a daily formative check the output is shippable; for an exam-quality bank you'll still edit a few questions.

How does AI rubric grading work?

On the School plan you can upload a custom rubric or pick a state standard — Wayground grades student open responses against it, surfaces per-criterion mastery, and recommends small-group remediation. It's the biggest functional jump since the rebrand.

Does it work for under-13 students?

Yes via the School plan with proper Clever / ClassLink / Classroom rostering, which handles parent consent. Open public games are 13+ unless a teacher uses class codes tied to a roster.

How does it compare to Kahoot's AI features?

Wayground has the wider standards-aligned content library (40M+ resources) and now leads on differentiation — reading-level Adapt and AI rubric grading are unmatched in Kahoot. Kahoot retains a tighter brand in elementary and slicker live-game UX. For middle school and up, Wayground is the stronger 2026 pick.
